Dental bridges in Tirana: what a zirconia bridge costs and what it asks of the teeth either side

A three-unit zirconia bridge costs 400–600 euro at Medicus Molaris, which covers the two crowns that carry it and the false tooth between them. Dental bridge cost is straightforward. The part that deserves your attention is the trade: a bridge fills the gap without surgery, and it pays for that speed by permanently reshaping the two healthy teeth either side.

What it is
Three joined zirconia units cemented as one piece: a crown on the tooth in front of the gap, a crown on the tooth behind, and a false tooth suspended between them
Time in the chair
Two appointments, roughly 90 minutes and 60 minutes
Visits
One trip to Tirana, with the lab work done between the two appointments
Price
400–600 euro for three units in zirconia
Anaesthetic
Local anaesthetic for the preparation appointment
Guarantee
5 years in writing
Surgery
None. No healing months, no bone work

Send a photograph of the gap and your panoramic X-ray. You will get the bridge priced, the implant alternative priced beside it, and a plain sentence on which of the two your own teeth are better suited to.

How a bridge actually works

The false tooth in the middle, the pontic, is not attached to anything underneath it. It hangs. Everything holding it up comes from the two teeth either side, which are cut down by roughly a millimetre and a half all round so that crowns can be seated over them. The three pieces are milled as a single unit of zirconia, so the bridge is cemented in one action and cannot be taken apart afterwards without cutting it off.

That design has two consequences worth knowing before you agree to one. The bite force that used to be spread over three roots is now carried by two, so the supporting teeth work harder for the rest of their lives. And because the units are joined, you cannot floss between them; cleaning happens underneath the pontic with an interdental brush or a floss threader, every day, or the margins of the supporting crowns are where decay will start.

What it costs the neighbouring teeth

If the teeth either side of your gap are already crowned, or already root-treated, or heavily filled, a bridge costs them nothing extra: they were going to need covering anyway, and a bridge simply covers them usefully. This is the case where a bridge is clearly good dentistry.

If both neighbours are untouched, healthy enamel, the position is different. Preparing a sound tooth for a crown removes tissue that does not grow back, and a proportion of teeth prepared this way need root canal treatment later because the pulp reacts badly to being trimmed. Nobody can tell you in advance which teeth those will be. That is the honest argument for placing an implant-supported bridge or a single implant instead, and it is set out tooth by tooth in dental implant or bridge.

When a bridge is still the right answer

  • The neighbours are already crowned. Nothing is lost, and the work is finished in one trip rather than two.
  • There is not enough bone and you do not want it rebuilt. An implant in a collapsed ridge needs a graft and months of healing. A bridge does not care about the bone under the gap.
  • A medical reason makes implant surgery inadvisable, or a medication you take affects bone healing.
  • You need the gap closed in one week, for a photographed occasion or because you cannot return.
  • A front tooth lost to trauma in a young adult, where the jaw is still changing and a bridge buys a decade before an implant is placed.

Price

Bridge Price (EUR)
Three-unit zirconia bridge, one gap 400–600
Each additional zirconia crown, where a longer span is needed 150–250
Consultation, X-ray reading and written plan Free
Root canal on a supporting tooth, if one turns out to need it 200–350

The quote you receive names the material of every unit. That matters because “bridge” on its own describes a shape, not a substance, and a metal-ceramic bridge and a monolithic zirconia bridge behave differently in the mouth. What each material is for is compared on the zirconia crowns page.

FAQ

How long does a zirconia bridge last?

Longer than the average patient expects and shorter than a well-placed implant. Published survival figures for conventional bridges cluster around the ten-to-fifteen-year mark, and the bridge itself is rarely what gives up: the usual end comes from decay at the margin of one supporting crown, or from that tooth fracturing under the extra load. Both are cleaning-dependent, which is why the second appointment ends with somebody showing you how to get a brush under the pontic.

Can a bridge replace two missing teeth in a row?

Yes, with a longer span, and the mechanics get less comfortable as it grows. Two false teeth carried by two crowns flex slightly under load, and flex is what loosens cement and cracks ceramic. For two or three teeth in a row, two implants carrying the span usually give a more predictable result than a four or five-unit bridge, which is why that case has a page of its own.

Does the gap under the bridge collect food?

A little, and by design: there has to be a gap you can clean under, or the gum beneath the pontic becomes inflamed. A well-shaped bridge leaves a smooth, slightly convex underside that a floss threader or an interdental brush passes along easily. A bridge that sits flat on the gum looks tidy on day one and causes trouble by year two.

Is the bone under the gap still lost?

Yes. A bridge does not load the bone where the tooth used to be, so the ridge continues to shrink slowly underneath the false tooth. Over many years that can show as a shadow appearing under a front bridge. It is not painful and it is not dangerous, but it is a real difference from an implant, which keeps the bone busy and therefore keeps it.
