Coming from the UK or Ireland for dental treatment in Tirana

Tirana is roughly three hours from London, three and a quarter from Manchester and three and a half from Dublin, there is no visa for UK or Irish citizens for stays under ninety days, and a single implant here is 450–650 euro with its zirconia crown against £2,000–2,500 for an implant in the UK. That gap is what brings British and Irish patients to Albania. What decides whether the trip is worth taking is not the gap: it is whether you have a written plan and a exact price in your hand before you book the flight.

What the same work costs at home

These are the figures the UK market publishes, set beside our own price list. Nothing here is adjusted to flatter the comparison, and travel is added separately below.

Treatment UK private Here
Single dental implant £2,000–2,500 300–450 euro for the fixture, 450–650 euro with its zirconia crown
Zirconia crown £400–800 150–250 euro
E-max veneer £500–1,000 200–350 euro
Full arch on four implants £12,000–25,000 per arch 5,000–7,000 euro per arch

Implants are not normally available on the NHS outside a narrow set of clinical circumstances, so almost every UK patient weighing this up is already comparing private prices, and Irish patients are in the same position. The full price list carries every treatment with what each figure includes.

A word on why the numbers differ, because it is a fair question. The implant systems are the same ones your dentist at home buys: Straumann BLT at 800 euro and Nobel Biocare at 700 euro, ordered from the same manufacturers. What is lower in Albania is the cost of running a practice: premises, wages, laboratory work, insurance. The materials are not cheaper and the plan is not thinner.

Add the travel before you decide

An honest comparison includes getting here. Two or three nights in central Tirana, return flights from a UK or Irish airport, and transfers. For a single implant that addition is small next to the difference in treatment cost. For one crown it may well not be worth the trip, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a flight: the threshold where travelling starts to make financial sense is usually somewhere around three or four units of work, or any implant case.

Flights from London and Manchester run year round and are cheapest outside July and August, when the Albanian coast fills up. Dublin is seasonal on some carriers, so Irish patients often route through London or Milan; tell us which and we will fit the appointment pattern around the connection rather than the other way round.

Before you fly: the part that protects you

Everything that can go wrong with treatment abroad goes wrong in the gap between a headline price and an actual plan. So the sequence here runs in this order and not another:

  1. You send a panoramic X-ray, photographs and your medical history, including medication.
  2. The dentist who will treat you reviews it personally and writes a plan: tooth by tooth, the material for each, the sequence, how many visits, how many days in Tirana, and a price per line.
  3. You receive that plan and the exact quote in euro by e-mail, and you read it at home with no one in the room.
  4. If you want a view on it, take it to your own dentist. A plan you cannot show to someone else is not a plan.
  5. Only then do you book flights, and the appointments are held against your dates.

The CBCT scan taken at the first appointment can add something the X-ray could not show, and the plan states in advance which figures are fixed and which depend on the scan. Our page on how your quote works sets out exactly what can change and why.

If it is easier to ask before sending anything, write to us on WhatsApp at +355 69 691 1118. Send a photo of the tooth or the quote you are holding and you will get an answer from the clinic rather than a call centre.

The second visit, and why it is in the plan from the start

Implant treatment is two trips, and the second one is the trip people forget to budget for. A single implant is 2–3 days here for the placement and 2–3 days again 3–6 months later for the crown. A full arch is 5–7 days for the surgery and the temporary bridge, then 2–3 days after four to six months for the final bridge. Veneers and crowns are different: those are one visit of four to six days, because there is no healing period to wait out.

Both trips, with their day counts, are written into your plan before you pay anything, so the total cost you are comparing with a UK quote is the total cost of both. Our page on planning your visit to Tirana sets out how the days between appointments are spent, and the clinic location page covers the journey from the airport.

Practical things British and Irish patients ask about

uk/foreign-travel-advice/albania) and it is worth a glance before any trip.

For follow-up at home, we send you the treatment record: what was placed, which system, the lot numbers, the radiographs and the guarantee. That is the paperwork a dentist in the UK or Ireland needs in order to look after work they did not do.

Payment is quoted in euro.

FAQ

Is Albania a sensible place to have dental implants?

It is if you choose on the same criteria you would use at home. Albania has licensed dentists, the same implant systems and laboratories working to the same standards as anywhere in Europe, and it also has clinics selling volume packages, exactly as Turkey and Hungary do. The things that separate one from the other are whether one clinical team is responsible from consultation to final crown, whether you get a written plan before you travel, whether the implant system is named with its lot recorded, and whether the guarantee is written down. Ask those four questions of any clinic in any country.

How does this compare with going to Turkey?

Turkey is the larger market and its published single implant prices, €300–700, sit in the same band as ours. The differences are not mainly about price: they are flight time from the UK and Ireland, how many days the clinic wants you there, whether you are treated by one clinical team or several, and what the quote leaves out. We set out the comparison in detail, with the figures sourced, on our page on dental implants in Tirana compared with Istanbul.

What if something goes wrong once I am home?

You message us with photographs, and the dentist who will treat you sees them rather than an assistant. Small things, a loose temporary, a rough edge, a crown that needs an adjustment, can usually be dealt with by a dentist near you with our notes in hand. Anything covered by the written guarantee that needs our hands brings you back to Tirana, and the guarantee states who pays for what. Read the terms on our page about the guarantee and aftercare before you commit, not after.

Can I combine the trip with a holiday?

Yes, and for veneers, crowns or whitening it works well, because those are single-visit treatments and you are comfortable within a day or two. Surgery is different: the first few days after implant placement are better spent within reach of the clinic than four hours down the coast. If you want both, plan the treatment days at the start of the trip and the coast afterwards, and tell us at the planning stage so the appointments fall in the right order.

Upload your X-ray, photographs and any quote you already hold to the quote form. The dentist who will treat you reviews it and you receive the written plan and exact price in euro by e-mail within 24 hours, with nothing to pay and nothing booked until you say so.
